Hit the road, buckle up and head over to Randall’s Island for a truck-load of fun this weekend!
The Randall’s Island Park Alliance will host the annual Big Truck Day celebration on May 17. The exciting event will shine a spotlight on the impressively large vehicles that help keep NYC moving and in tip-top shape.
Attendees will learn how garbage truck drivers, police officers, big truck operators — even farmers — use their bulky vehicles to help keep the Big Apple safe, clean and healthy for residents and visitors.
Event-goers of all ages will get to explore an array of trucks and learn from the operators themselves about how they use their important vehicles every day. (BONUS FUN: You might even have the chance to sit in the front seat of some trucks for a cool photo opp!)

“Big Truck Day is a family favorite hosted by the Randall’s Island Park Alliance, and we are thrilled to offer a fun and engaging way for kids to explore the big vehicles that help keep New York City running,” Chris Girgenti, Randall’s Island Park Alliance’s director of environmental programs, said.
Other activities throughout the day include story time, snacks, games and truck-themed activities.
“With partners like NYC Parks, FDNY and MTA Bridges and Tunnels, families can get up close to a wide variety of trucks and equipment, meet the people who operate them, and learn how they support the city every day,” Girgenti added. “Alongside the trucks, families can enjoy story time, games, snacks, and creative activities that make this a lively, hands-on afternoon of discovery for all ages.”
